FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Here are common questions about the purpose of Chart Playback, practice orders, and price data.

About Chart Playback

Does Chart Playback guarantee results?

No. Chart Playback is a practice tool for decision-making practice and review using historical charts. It does not promise profits, win rates, or other results. You are responsible for your own investment decisions.

Is it a course for learning stock investing from the beginning?

No. Chart Playback does not teach the basics of stock investing or trading methods from the beginning. It is for practicing and reviewing ideas or personal trading rules you have already learned.

Does it tell me when to buy or sell?

No. Chart Playback does not tell you when to buy or sell, or which securities to choose. It is for practicing your own decisions while reading a chart.

Are practice orders sent to a broker?

No. The orders and positions recorded during practice are in-app practice data. No order is sent to a broker and no real transaction takes place.

Are the sample instruments real?

No. Instrument names and price data in the guest demo are fictional samples, not real companies, securities, or market data.

Do I need to create an account or sign in?

No account or sign-in is required for the guest demo, which uses fictional sample instruments. To load and save CSV price data you prepare, sign in as a free member with Google or email OTP. Chart Playback Data Tool is a separate service and does not require a Chart Playback account or sign-in.

Is Chart Playback free to use?

Yes. The guest demo and free-member features are currently available at no charge. A Pro plan and paid features are not currently available.

Can I use price data I prepare?

Yes. Free members can sign in with Google or email OTP and load and save CSV price data they prepare in browser storage. Cloud storage and cross-device sync are not currently available.

Where are CSV files and practice data stored?

CSV files and practice data for free members are stored in the browser currently in use. Cloud storage and cross-device sync are not currently available.

Is there a tool to prepare price data?

Yes. Chart Playback Data Tool is a separate free tool for saving daily price data as CSV. A Windows / macOS desktop version and a Chrome extension are available, and neither requires a Chart Playback account or sign-in.

Can I use it on a smartphone?

The official website is designed to be viewed on a smartphone. Because the web app has charts and control panels, a wider PC or tablet screen is generally easier to use.

What are drawing practice and notes for?

Use them to leave lines and notes on a chart, then review why you made a decision and what you noticed. Together with practice orders, they can help you review your decision-making process.
