Relationship to Chart Playback
Chart Playback Data Tool is a related tool that helps prepare price CSV files used with Chart Playback.
The Chrome extension operates separately from the Chart Playback web app and can also be used on its own.
Storage and communications
Based on the entered symbol or ticker and date range, the user's Chrome browser sends requests directly to Yahoo Finance data endpoints.
Servers operated by Chart Playback are not used as a relay for retrieving price data, and the symbol, date range, name, and retrieved CSV are not sent to or stored on Chart Playback operator servers.
The CSV is saved to the user's device through Chrome's download functionality.
Important notes
The accuracy, completeness, and continuing availability of retrieved data are not assured. Check dates, prices, missing values, and similar details yourself before use.
Data Tool does not provide investment advice, trading recommendations, forecasts of future price movements, or guarantees of profits.
It is for non-commercial, non-business use by individuals for themselves.
You are responsible for your own investment decisions.
Difference from the desktop Data Tool
The currently distributed desktop Data Tool is an application for Windows and macOS and uses yfinance for data retrieval.
The Chrome extension does not use yfinance. It sends requests directly from the user's Chrome browser to the data source.
The retrieval method is different, but both versions save Chart Playback-compatible daily CSV files. Because their data sources and retrieval methods differ, available data and results may not always be identical.
